Knowing the days of the week in Spanish allows children to understand and communicate important information. That is why the days of the week are some of the first vocabulary taught in beginning Spanish classes. Here is some useful information about the days of the week in Spanish:
The days of the week are not capitalized in Spanish.
The first day of the week on Spanish-language calendars is Monday.
The article el or los before the day of the week translates “on”.
Voy al parque el domingo. / I go to the park on Sunday.
Tienes una cita con el dentista el martes. / You have a dentist appointment on Tuesday.
The days of the week do not become plural. Only the article becomes plural – los.
Los jueves voy a la casa de mis abuelos. / On Thursdays I go to my grandparent’s house.

lunes – Monday
martes – Tuesday
miércoles – Wednesday
jueves – Thursday
viernes – Friday
sabado – Saturday
domingo – Sunday
These words are also useful when talking about the days of the week:
hoy – today
mañana – tomorrow

la semana – week
Use the days of the week in Spanish with your child in phrases like these:
Hoy es lunes. / Today is Monday.
Mañana es martes. / Tomorrow is Tuesday.

Hay un partido de fútbol el jueves. / There is a soccer game on Thursday.
