Summer is winding down, and we are wrapping up our Summer Spanish Read and Play program. Over 5,000 children participated again this year. That is a lot of Spanish learning! Below you will find a Spanish summer reading certificate for 2017.
The summer reading certificate recognizes that kids put effort into reading in Spanish. Some children’s activities have traditional ways of acknowledging progress, such as piano and dance recitals or karate belts. Learning a language is a lot of work and making an effort to develop language skills is worth celebrating. The summer reading certificate is one way to show children that you appreciate the work they did.
Of course, we also consider the certificate a way to give kids a little more Spanish and culture. Children don’t see the words used in certificates and similar documents very often, so this is a great opportunity to talk to them about how we use different types of language for certain occasions. Read the certificate together and talk about the words logro, ortogado and concedido.
In addition, there is a quote by Miguel de Cervantes at the bottom of the certificate. It says El que lee mucho y anda mucho, ve mucho y sabe mucho. The quote is a perfect prompt for talking about the power of reading and travel, and for introducing Cervantes and Don Quixote, the most famous work of Spanish literature.
This year’s summer reading certificate is available in color or black and white. Many classes participated in the program, and black and white is the more economical choice for schools.
