There are lots of excellent Spanish nutrition and health materials for kids. Many of these are available free and are fun resources for children learning Spanish.
Picture Books from Arte Público Press
Picture books are my favorite language learning resources. ¡Salud, familia! is a publishing and outreach program of Arte Público Press that offers Spanish nutrition and health education through a series bilingual children’s books. In addition to traditional retail channels, Arte Público Press works with partner organizations to make these books available free of charge to low-income Hispanic families with school-aged children.
The ¡Salud, familia! series of books features children as protagonists making choices about exercise and eating. The books engage kids with Spanish nutrition and health vocabulary in the context of fun, culturally relevant stories. Just as important, these stories are quality children’s literature that kids will connect with and love.
The ¡Salud, familia! series includes these bilingual titles:
Adelita y las primas verduritas

Wonderful Coloring/Story Book from Arte Público Press and ¡Salud, Familia!
Arte Público Press is creating free bilingual coloring books of the ¡Salud, familia! series. Pateo el Balón is available to download now. This a fabulous story to use with Spanish learners. If they happen to be soccer lovers, even better! The Arte Públic site can be a little slow, but be patient. The book is worth the wait. Watch for other titles to become available.
Coloring/Story Book on Dental Health
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development has an excellent coloring book with text called Salud con leche y Amiguito Cepillito. The coloring book has simple sentences and lots of Spanish nutrition and health vocabulary that Spanish learners will be familiar with.
Eat Smart Play Hard ™
United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service has many Spanish nutrition materials associated with the Eat Smart Play Hard campaign.
Activity Sheets and Bookmarks – These are printed in English on one side and in Spanish on the other.
El Club de Dos Bocados is an educational storybook, available in English and Spanish, developed to introduce MyPlate (MiPlato) to young children. The back of the book contains a MiPlato coloring page, a blank certificate for El Club de Dos Bocados, and fun activity pages.
Mi Plato
The MyPlate website also has free Spanish nutrition and health activities for kids. You will find mazes, coloring sheets, word games and more.
