Spanish Listening Practice: Printable Snowman Clothespin Activity

Kids in Wisconsin are building lots of snowmen this week, so we are talking about them in class too. This is an activity where kids practice listening in Spanish to find the snowman that is being described. I do it with clothespins, but they can also mark them off with a pencil. My kids like this collection of muñecos de nieve and of course they love the clothespins!

Using clothespins, you can describe a snowman more than once. You can also describe them in a way that there is more than one correct answer. Because none of the snowmen are eliminated, kids pay more attention through the whole activity. I like these activities because I can use the cards more than once, and kids have fun moving the clothespins around. The clothespin only has to point at the snowman; depending on your clothespins, it may not reach all the way. You will find a link to the printable PDF at the end of the post.

This type of listening activity is very versatile and can be adapted to different levels and vocabulary. You can find pictures to go with almost any topic. With these snowmen, children are listening for Spanish numbers, body parts, colors, and specific words like bufanda, botones and sombrero.

This is some of the vocabulary kids practice with this Spanish listening activity:
el sombrero – hat
la bufanda – scarf
la escoba – broom
la nariz – nose
los ojos – eyes
la boca – mouth
los brazos – arms
la zanahoria – carrot
los botones – buttons
los lentes de sol – sunglasses

anaranjado – orange

You can easily adapt the level of the description you give. For very beginners, you can make simple sentences with several correct answers. These sentences fit lots of the snowmen: Encuentra un muñeco de nieve con una bufanda roja. Encuentra un muñeco de nieve con un sombrero negro.

You can also make sentences that have only one correct answer. These descriptions are more detailed and fit only one of the snowmen. They are included in the PDF at the end of the post.

1. Este muñeco de nieve tiene un sombrero azul, una bufanda roja y tres botones.

2. Este muñeco de nieve tiene una zanahoria como nariz y está levantando el sombrero. El sombrero está en la mano. Tiene cinco botones.

3. Encuentra el muñeco que tiene seis botones, una nariz de zanahoria y un sombrero anaranjado. !Es alto!

4. Este muñeco tiene un brazo. El brazo es una escoba. Tiene un sombrero negro y está sonriendo.

5. ¿Puedes encontrar un muñeco gordito que tiene un sombrero pequeño? El sombrero es de un solo color. Tiene también una bufanda roja que casi cubre los botones.

6. Este muñeco lleva un sombrero negro. ¡También lleva lentes de sol! No tiene botones.

7. Este muñeco tiene un sombrero negro con una raya roja. Tiene una bufanda roja y cuatro botones. También tiene una escoba en la mano.

8. Este muñeco de nieve no tiene sombrero ni bufanda ni botones. Solo tiene dos brazos, ojos y una boca.

9. Encuentra el muñeco que lleva un sombrero anaranjado en la cabeza, tiene una zanahoria larga como nariz, y tiene cinco botones.

10. ¿Ves el muñeco de nieve que tiene un sombrero pequeño con una raya roja? Tiene una bufanda roja y tres botones.

11. Este muñeco de nieve tiene una bufanda verde. Los ojos son dos botones azules. Tiene una escoba en la mano.

12. Este muñeco de nieve tiene una bufanda de colores. No se puede ver la boca por la bufanda. Lleva un sombrero con una raya amarilla. Solo se ve un ojo. Tiene tres botones.
