This is the Spanish version of the traditional song “The Green Grass Grew All Around.” It has lots of Spanish vocabulary, and actions reinforce the meaning of the words. The repetition lets children practice noun-adjective agreement (for example, árbol lindo, rama linda or ese árbol, esa rama) over and over. They also are introduced to the verb form había – which means “there was.” This is a very common and useful Spanish verb for children to learn.
The video is a teacher-training workshop that was presented by the duet Tiempo de Sol in Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. I wish my elementary music classes had been this fun! The words and a word-for-word translation follow the video.

Some versions of this song use the word hoyo for hole. This version uses pozo, which literally means “well” (for water).
