Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2020 (1/31/20) is in its 7th year! This non-profit children’s literacy initiative was founded by Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen.
These diverse book-loving moms saw a need to shine the spotlight on multicultural books and authors while also working to get those books into the hands of young readers and educators.
Seven years in, MCBD’s mission continues. We work to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in home and school bookshelves.
This year Spanish Playground has the privilege of reading a number of multicultural Spanish language and bilingual books.
Snowflake Stories publishes bilingual personalized books that feature your child and your family. I loved the experience of customizing and reading one of these stories to my granddaughter!
Kids learn about African American history in Spanish with Ana y Andrew Un día en el museo. This is a wonderful story about a family trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Be sure to check out this remarkable title from ABDO Publishing.
I also read several bilingual books that focused on family connections. Find reviews of books by Ann Morris and Evelyn Sanchez-Toledo here: Bilingual Books Build Family Connections.
