Learn Spanish with Pictures: Women Selling Fruit

Talk about this photograph of three women in Cartagena, Colombia to help kids learn Spanish. The questions that follow, like all the Learn Spanish with Pictures activities, are ordered to help children master the vocabulary and gain confidence with the language.

When you do the Learn Spanish with Pictures activities, start with Describe the photo (1) and be sure to point to the objects in the picture as you talk about them. Use gestures, facial expressions and actions to help your child understand what the words mean. When your child understands the key words, ask questions from Choose the answer (2) and Pointing and counting (3). Ask the questions in Yes and No (4) to practice more of the vocabulary used in the description. If your child is comfortable enough with the Spanish words to produce them easily, include the questions in Say a little more (5). The questions in What about you? 1. Describir la foto – Describe the photo

En la foto hay tres mujeres. Ellas venden fruta. La fruta está en dos platos muy grandes. Hay sandía, plátanos, piña y otras frutas en los platos. Las mujeres llevan vestidos de muchos colores. Llevan pañuelos en la cabeza. La mujer del medio lleva un vestido con imágenes de fruta. Detrás de las mujeres hay una pared amarilla.

[Translation.] In the photo, there are three women. They sell fruit. The fruit is in two very big bowls. There is watermelon, bananas, pineapple and other fruit in the bowls. The women are wearing dresses with many colors. They are wearing scarves on their heads. The woman in the middle is wearing a dress with pictures of fruit. Behind the women, there is a yellow wall.
