Learn Spanish with Pictures: Three Little Birds

This photograph of parakeets is a fun way to speak Spanish with your child. Talk about the picture using the description and questions below. The questions, like all the Learn Spanish with Pictures activities, are ordered to help children master the vocabulary and gain confidence with the language.

The Learn Spanish with Pictures activities have several parts. Start with Describe the photo (1) and be sure to point to the objects in the picture as you talk about them. Use gestures, facial expressions and actions to help your child understand and learn Spanish words. When your child understands the key words, ask questions from Choose the answer (2) and Pointing and counting (3). Ask the questions in Yes and No (4) to practice more of the vocabulary used in the description. If your child is comfortable enough with the Spanish words to produce them easily, include the questions in Say a little more (5). The questions in What about you? Learn Spanish Description and Questions

1. Describir la foto – Describe the photo
Estos pajaritos son periquitos. Hay tres. Uno es azul con negro en las alas.  Otro es azul claro y tiene alas blancas. El tercero es amarillo, verde y negro. Los tres periquitos están sobre un mantel que tiene muñecos de nieve. El periquito amarillo pisa un muñeco de nieve. El muñeco de nieve lleva una bufanda y un gorro rojo. Detrás de los periquitos hay tres piñas.

[These little birds are parakeets. There are three. One is blue with black on his wings. Another is light blue and has white wings. The third one is yellow, green and black. The three parakeets are on a table cloth with snowmen on it. The yellow parakeet is standing/stepping on a snowman.  The snowman is wearing a scarf and a red stocking cap. 4. Sí o no – Yes or No

5. Decir un poco más – Say a little more (respuestas/answers)
¿De qué color es el gorro del muñeco de nieve? (Es rojo. / It is red.)
¿Cuántas piñas hay? (Hay tres. / There are three.)
¿Qué hay en el mantel? (Hay muñecos de nieve. / There are snowmen.)
¿Qué prendas de vestir tiene el muñeco de nieve? (Tiene un gorro y una bufanda. / He has a hat and a scarf.)
