This song is lots of fun to sing and to dance to, and it teaches the parts of the body in Spanish.  It is all about moving, and playing a little air guitar as you sing the pie, pie, pie lines.  Each time you sing a verse, you add another part of the body, always above the last one, and then sing your way down the body to your feet – pie, pie, piepie, pie, pie, pie – to a rhythm that you might recognize from the opening of Rock Around the Clock.

All of the body parts (except pie-foot) have three syllables, to fit the rhythm. The song uses the diminutive of hombros (hombritos) for shoulders and pecho (pechito )for chest, for that reason. This is a very common Spanish structure and children understand and learn it easily.

Other three-syllable body parts could easily be added or substituted.  For example, oreja (ear), cabello (hair), mejilla (cheek), manito (hand), muñeca (wrist), or tobillo (ankle). It is important to invent an action that reinforces the meaning of the Spanish word.

The video is of a workshop for teachers by Dúo Tiempo de Sol.  The presenters are from Argentina and have been performing for children and working with teachers for more than twenty years. This workshop was done in Sevilla, Spain.  The participants can really dance, and they show how much fun this song can be!
