A Girl and Her Dog: Learn Spanish with Pictures

Help your child learn Spanish by talking about this wonderful photograph. The questions that follow, like all the Learn Spanish with Pictures activities, are ordered to help children master the vocabulary and gain confidence with the language. Start with Describe the photo (1), and be sure to point to the objects in the picture as you talk about them. Use gestures, facial expressions and actions to help your child understand what the words mean. When your child understands the key words, ask questions from Choose the answer (2) and Pointing and counting (3). Ask the questions in Yes and No (4) to practice more of the vocabulary used in the description. If your child is comfortable enough with the Spanish words to produce them easily, include the questions in Say a little more (5). 1. Describir la foto – Describe the photo
Una niña y su perro están afuera. Los dos corren. El perro tiene una prenda de vestir blanca en la boca. La niña quiere quitársela. El perro corre porque no quiere que la niña se la quite. El perro es pequeño. Es blanco con manchas marrones. La niña es rubia y tiene pelo largo. Lleva pantalones cortos y una camiseta a rayas. No lleva zapatos. La niña sonríe. No está enojada.  Piensa que el perro es chistoso.

[A little girl and her dog are outside. They are both running. The dog has a white piece of clothing in his mouth. The little girl wants to take it away from him. The dog is running because he doesn’t want the girl to take it away from him. The dog is small. He is white with brown spots. The little girl is blond and has long hair. She is wearing shorts and a stripped T-shirt. She is not wearing shoes. The little girl is smiling. She is not angry. She thinks the dog is funny.]

2. Seleccionar la respuesta – Choose the answer
¿Es la niña o el perro? (point to one of them)
¿El perro y la niña están en la casa o afuera?
¿La niña corre o camina?
¿La niña tiene pelo largo o corto?

3. Señalar con el dedo – Pointing and counting
¿Cuántas personas hay en la foto?
¿Dónde está el perro?
¿Puedes ver los pies de la niña? ¿Dónde están?
¿Dónde están las manos de la niña?

4. Sí o no – Yes or No
¿El perro tiene una prenda de vestir en la boca?
¿La niña lleva zapatos?
¿El perro es grande?
¿La niña quiere quitarle la prenda de vestir al perro?

5. Decir un poco más – Say a little more  (respuestas/answers)
¿Cómo se viste la niña?  (Lleva una camiseta a rayas y pantalones cortos.)
¿De qué color es perro?  (Es blanco con manchas marrones.)
¿Cómo se siente la niña? (Está contenta. Sonríe. No está enojada con el perro.)
