A little girl on the beach – Learn Spanish with Pictures

Use this photo and the questions that follow to help children learn Spanish. Like the other Learn Spanish with Pictures posts, these activities are ordered to help children master the vocabulary and gain confidence with the language. Start with Describe the photo (1), and be sure to point to the objects in the picture as you talk about them.  When your child understands the key words, ask questions from Choose the answer (2) and Pointing and counting (3). Ask the questions in Yes and No (4) to practice more of the vocabulary used in the description. If your child is comfortable enough with the Spanish words to produce them easily, include the questions in Say a little more (5). 1. Describir la foto – Describe the photo
Una niña juega en la playa. Lleva un vestido de color rosa con una camisa blanca. Tiene pelo negro y trae una liga (una goma) rosa. No lleva zapatos. La niña está cerca del mar en la arena mojada.  Viene una ola. ¿Se va a mojar la niña?

[A little girl is playing in the beach. She is wearing a pink dress with a white shirt. She has black hair and is wearing a pink hair tie.  She isn’t wearing shoes.  The little girl is close to the ocean in the wet sand. A wave is coming. Is the little girl going to get wet?]

2. Seleccionar la respuesta – Choose the answer
¿Es una niña o un niño?
¿Está en el mar o en la arena?
¿La niña lleva un vestido blanco o de color rosa?

3. Señalar con el dedo – Pointing and counting
¿Cuántas personas hay en la foto?
¿Dónde está la ola?
¿Puedes ver el pelo de la niña? ¿Dónde está?

4. Sí o no – Yes or No
¿La niña lleva zapatos?
¿La niña está cerca del mar?
¿La arena está mojada?
¿La niña lleva una camisa rosa?

5. Decir un poco más – Say a little more  (respuestas/answers)
¿Dónde está la niña? (Está en la playa.)
¿Qué hace en la playa la niña? (La niña juega.)
¿De qué color es el vestido de la niña? (El vestido es de color rosa.)
¿Qué trae en el pelo? (Trae una liga/una goma.)

6. Vocabulario – Vocabulary
la niña – little girl
la playa – beach
vestido – dress
rosa – pink
camisa – shirt
blanca – white
el pelo – hair
negro – black
liga – hair tie (Liga is the word used in Mexico. In Spain, a hair tie is goma.)
los zapatos – shoes

mojarse – to get wet
