Spanish songs for kids

I use this Spanish song for kids with preschoolers and beginning language learners.

La luna y el sol teaches basic concepts about the sun and the moon: the moon is small and the sun is bigger; the moon comes out at night and the sun comes out during the day; the moon is cold and the sun is hot. There is lots of excellent vocabulary for children learning Spanish and it is easy to add actions to reinforce the meaning of the words.

There are several versions of this song. You can hear the one I teach in a video from yocantoesta here: Spanish songs for kids – La luna y el sol. I teach it to beginners when they are learning tener frío and tener calor and it fits in well.

These are the words and a translation:

The moon is very small and the sun much bigger.
The moon is cold and the sun is hot.
The moon comes out at night and the sun comes out in the day.
Let’s dance, let’s dance, let’s dance with the moon and the sun.
Let’s dance, let’s dance, let’s dance with both of them.

The variations of this song often change the verb in the last line to saltar or aplaudir. They also change the second line and use estar instead of salir.

This is one common variation:

The moon is very small and the sun much bigger.
The moon is cold and the sun is hot.
The moon is out at night and the sun is out in the day.
Let’s clap, let’s clap, let’s clap with the moon and the sun.
Let’s clap, let’s clap, let’s clap with the moon and the sun.

Here is another variation of this song. It leaves out the line about day and night and instead repeats that the moon is small and the sun is bigger.

Also, in this version, the sun warms the moon.

The moon is very small and the sun much bigger.
The moon is cold and the sun gives it heat (warms it up).
The moon is very small and the sun is much bigger.
Let’s jump, let’s jump, let’s jump with the moon and the sun.
Let’s jump, let’s jump, let’s jump with the moon and the sun.
