spanish songs for kids

This Spanish song for kids teaches lots of house vocabulary and is also a good way for kids to hear and sing negative structures. Mostly though, this song is great fun. It describes a crazy house – without a roof, walls, floor – and has a funny twist at the end that kids love.

The original song by Vinicius De Moraes is in Portuguese, but lots of artists sing it in Spanish. The versions have slightly different lyrics and even have different titles. This version is titled La casa desbarataba. The lyrics and a translation follow the video.

La casa desbaratada / The ruined house

Tengo una casa desbaratada / I have a ruined house
No tiene techo, no tiene nada.  / It doesn’t have a roof, it doesn’t have anything.
Nadie se puede en ella quedar / No one can stay in it
No tiene suelo para pisar. / It doesn’t have a floor to walk on.
No tiene puertas, ni una pared / It doesn’t have doors, not even one wall
¡Qué disparate! Fíjese usted, / How crazy! Just look,
Que no hay manera de hacer pipí / There is no way to go pee
Porque ni baño yo tengo allí. / Because I don’t have a bathroom there.
Mi casa tiene un jardín bonito / My house has a pretty garden
Lleno de flores y pajaritos / Full of flowers and little birds
Mi casa salta como una nube / My house jumps like a cloud
Me paso el día sube que sube / I spend all day up and up
Tiene mil cuartos desocupados / It has a thousand empty rooms
Y cien garajes llenos de carros / And a hundred garages full of cars
Y una cocina con mil neveras / And a kitchen with a thousand refrigerators
Y dos piscinas y una bodega / And two pools and a cellar
Mi casa está en un barrio precioso / My house is in a pretty neighborhood
Donde vivimos los mentirosos. / Where we liars live.
Donde vivimos los mentirosos. / Where we liars live.

This is a very fun version by the wonderful Argentine performer Luis Pescetti. This video has the words on the screen, but I have included them below with a translation. There is a long introduction, so you may want to move the video ahead to about 2:10.

Luis Pescetti also has a link to an excellent mp3 of the song from the cancionero on his website. Just scroll down to La casa disparatada.
These are the lyrics that Luis Pescetti sings:
La casa disparatada / The crazy (absurd) house

Tengo una casa disparatada / I have a crazy house
No tiene techo, no tiene nada.  / It doesn’t have a roof, it doesn’t have anything.
Nadie se puede en ella quedar / No one can stay in it
No tiene suelo para pisar. / It doesn’t have a floor to walk on.
No tiene puertas, ni una pared / It doesn’t have doors, not even one wall
¡Qué disparate! Fíjese usted, / How crazy! Just look,
Que no hay manera de hacer pipí / There is no way to go pee
Pues bacinica no tengo allí. / Because I don’t have a potty there.
La tengo hecha con mucho esmero / I made it with lots of care
Calle Los locos, Número cero. / Crazy Street, Number Zero.
Mi casa está en un barrio precioso / My house is in a pretty neighborhood
Donde vivimos los mentirosos. / where we liars live.

This last version is by Atención, Atención, a children’s group from Puerto Rico.
This is the only version I have found to download. It is available on Amazon and iTunes.

No tiene puerta, ni una pared / It doesn’t have a door, not even one wall
¡Qué disparate! Fíjese usted, / How crazy! Just look,
Que no hay manera de hacer pipí / There is no way to go pee
Porque inodoro no tengo allí. / Because I don’t have a toilet there.
Mi casa está en un barrio precioso / My house is in a pretty neighborhood
Donde vivimos los revoltosos. / Where we naughty ones live.
Mi casa está en un barrio precioso / My house is in a pretty neighborhood
Donde vivimos los revoltosos. / Where we naughty ones live.
